What are some good beginner surf spots in Southern California?

I’m a beginner surfer, I’ve been out about five or six times but keep getting my butt kicked and I know its because the waves are too big and rough for my skill level. I was just wondering where some good surf spots for beginners are in Southern California that have preferrable smooth rolling waves, as opposed to the big rough ones I’ve been trying.
