Where to intermediate surf in Southern California?

I am taking a couple girls surfing for the first time, i am a pretty good surfer, but i dont have longboards so i dont want to go to a just longboard beach where i would have to paddle really far out. I was wondering any spots that waves arent too steep and have a sandy bottom near ventura, manhattan, and malibu. I will probably push them into white water but i still dont want really powerful waves.
