When and Where are Southern California Surf Competitions?

I’m looking to take photos of Surfers, it’s hard to just go down to the beach and find good surfers around my area, (palos Verdes / Redondo Beach / Torrance Beach) so i was wondering when and where i could go to find good surfers so i thought surfing competitions have good surfers, so any tips on when and where to be to get great shots?
